Session Description: Session 1 of the Grants 101 Series

Identifying grant-funding sources for your organization requires tedious research. This session will teach you where to find appropriate corporate and family foundation resources and what key details to collect whether you are using a free or subscription database. Techniques will include key word searches in services, population, geography, and type of funding. It will also include using similar organizations to research funding more quickly. It will also discuss how to conduct research in short ongoing ways and organized your research so you can move in and out of it quickly without going down a rabbit hole.

What you will learn:

  • How to conduct research using online databases like Grant Station or Foundation Directory Online
  • How to conduct research using foundation 990s
  • How to research when you don’t have time to research

Skill 1.2: Identify major trends in private grant funding
Skill 1.3: Identify methods of locating funding sources
Skill 1.4: Identify techniques to learn about specific funders

Skill 1.7: Determine best matches between funders and specific programs

The trainers for these sessions are all credentialed grant professionals (GPCs) through the Grant Professional Certification Institute and Approved Trainers with the Grant Professionals Association.
