Audit findings rarely result from a single mistake. This course examines how small decisions made throughout the grant lifecycle can quietly accumulate into compliance issues. Participants will explore the full grant system from award through audit, identify common breakdowns between departments, and apply strategies that support audit readiness from the beginning of grant implementation.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how early grant management decisions influence audit outcomes over time.
  • Identify how people, processes, documentation, and internal controls interact across the grant lifecycle.
  • Recognize common disconnects between program staff, finance, and leadership that create compliance risk.
  • Assess grant systems from a lifecycle perspective to identify weaknesses before they become findings.
  • Apply audit-ready thinking from the start of the grant to support compliance, performance, and defensibility.
