We’ve probably all been in a situation when the executive, program, or financial staff at our organization say, “We’ll figure it out if you can get us the funding,” when we ask how a grant will be managed after it is awarded. Whether the organization is young and simply ignorant of what to do next or experienced enough to think they know it all, many organizations need coaching on best practices for the transition from pre-award to post-award activities. For some grant professionals, this response could point to an ethical dilemma, but it is also an opportunity to educate those with whom we work. Education as a response to these situations can be nerve-wracking at best or downright scary at worst if you have never been taught strategies to use with your peers.
The goal of this session is to teach grant professionals how to coach their organizations and clients through a successful pre-award to post-award transition. In order to achieve this goal, participants will learn about and practice conversation starters for discussing post-award plans like tasks, individuals responsible, and timelines. Participants will also learn about and practice suggested responses to challenging situations.
What You’ll Learn:
- Participants will increase their knowledge about situations that could raise a caution flag for ethical questions.
- Participants will increase their skills and comfort in discussing post-award plans like tasks, individuals responsible, and timelines through practice with conversation starters which reflect motivational interviewing and managing up strategies.
- Participants will increase their skills and comfort with responding to challenging situations.
